Transforming Rage into Action
Jesse Muzzy | JUN 28, 2022
Woof. What a week it’s been. How are you doing? How is your heart?
I’ve been oscillating between moments of deep rage and frustration, to a strong and empowering sense of responsibility. Responsibility for what you may ask? I didn’t support overturning Roe and I have never supported a movement that strips the rights and access to make informed decisions about my body.
While it is deeply unsettling to know that abortion access and reproductive rights are under attack in our country, the truth is that this is not new. If you live in a state that is likely to ban abortion, it has already been extremely difficult to get an abortion in that state, especially if you are a person of color or live with financial instability. The truth is that the United States government has waged war on the bodies of women, menstruators, and bodies of color since our arrival on this land.
It has never been the will or intention of governments or corporations to ensure the right to health, wellness, and vitality of all people. So, we stopped relying on them to govern our bodies and ensure our rights a long time ago.
As a result, many brave wisdom keepers, healers, activists, and educators have created foundations, networks, and frameworks that have prepared us for this moment. While the “rule of law” may create challenging conditions, the “law of nature” is one that cannot be governed, and one that connects us deeply to our own bodies and to each other.

In this moment, I invite you to take a deep breath and reflect on how you may turn your anger, rage, or fear into abundance and action. How are these conditions calling you to shift your perspective on bodily autonomy, blame, self empowerment, and collective care? How might you channel your fiery passions into brave action that directly contributes to courageous work that is currently and continually supporting people in need right now?
I have a few ideas.
Consider donating to one of these organizations that provide resources and education for safe and affordable home abortions.
Seek out your local abortion clinic and see how you can offer direct support in this turbulent time.
Educate yourself on what home abortions actually look like and change your language to help dispel the fear-based narratives of the “coat hanger” abortion.
Life is cyclical. In times like these, it is imperative that we reflect back on movements of the past that have led to successful and impactful social change, and emulate that same spirit, motivation, and commitment to peace, justice, and love.
We are in this together and all have our own gifts to contribute. My vow is to be in service to anyone who needs support and is willing to be brave in the face of adversity.
In service and healing,
Jesse
