I began taking the pill for contraception when I was 15 years old. It wasn't quite a conscious decision, more of "that's just what you do" attitude. I never really thought twice about hormonal contraception as disruptive and even potentially harmful to my body.
Fast forward 8 years and I was hospitalized for 5 days for a cervical ectopic pregnancy caused by the Copper IUD (Paragard). After an extremely scary emergency surgery, thousands of dollars in hospital bills, and months of depression following the procedure and exacerbated by the NuvaRing, I knew I had to figure something else out for my contraception.
I decided to go all in with Fertility Awareness and fully take back my power and agency with my reproductive health. I found an FAE (fertility awareness educator) and took classes with her. The rest is history!
